Trivia Champions
Top trivia teams try to take the title.
August 22, 2008
By clue 3, the top score was 75 and the 5th-place score 60. Neither the Dirty Dozen (clue 1), Friends, or Clown Posse (4) finished 5th, so either the Barflyers or 3 Stooges Plus 1 did. If the Barflyers had placed 5th in the trivia finals with a score of 60 (3), by clue 1, the team from the Plough would have tallied 63 and the Dirty Dozen 69 points. By clue 5, the team representing the Queen Victoria scored 3 more points than the 3 Stooges Plus 1. So, the Queen Victoria players either won the event with a score of 75 (3), are the fifth team to the three in clue 1 and the winning team, or are the Dirty Dozen. If the Queen Victoria team had won the trivia title with a score of 75, the 3 Stooges Plus 1 would have tallied 72 (5). By clue 4, Friends finished twice as many points ahead of the Old Philosopher Pub team as the Clown Posse finished ahead of the King's Arms players. The Friends couldn't be from the Plough and would be from the Queen Victoria Pub, with the Clown Posse then from the Plough. By clue 4, the team from the Old Philosopher Pub would be the Dirty Dozen and the team from the King's Arms would be the Barflyers. By elimination, the 3 Stooges Plus 1 would be the team that finished first at the Maid Marian--no(2). If the team from the Queen Victoria were the fifth team to the three in clue 1 and the winning team, the 3 Stooges Plus 1 would be from the Plough, so that the Queen Victoria trivia team would have scored 66 points (5). In clue 4, the Clown Posse wouldn't have won by 6 since the Friends from the Queen Victoria Pub would have won by 12 and the Old Philosopher Pub team would have scored 54 points. The Friends would have scored 75 points and the Clown Posse 66. Friends would have to have defeated the Dirty Dozen from the Old Philosopher by 6 points--but there would be no way for the King's Arms team to fit into this arrangement. If the team from the Queen Victoria were the Dirty Dozen, the 3 Stooges Plus 1 would have scored 66 points (5). By clue 4, Friends would have won the championship with 75 points, and Clown Posse would be the Plough entry in the event. The King's Arms team would be the Barflyers--but there then would be no way for the Old Philosopher Pub team to fit. Therefore, the Barflyers did not place 5th; the 3 Stooges Plus 1 did, scoring 60, with the Queen Victoria Pub entry scoring 63 (5). By clue 1, the Dirty Dozen either won the championship or placed 2nd. If the Dirty Dozen had won with 75 points, the team from the Plough Pub would have scored 69 and the Barflyers would have totalled 66. By clue 4, the Friends would be the Plough team and the Clown Posse from the Queen Victoria, with the King's Arms team then the 3 Stooges Plus 1--but there then would be no way for the Old Philosopher Pub team to fit. So, in clue 1, the Dirty Dozen placed 2nd, the Plough team was 3rd, and the Barflyers from the Queen Victoria Pub finished 4th with 63 points. The Plough entry scored 66 and the Dirty Dozen 72 points (1). If the Clown Posse in clue 4 were the team from the Plough and Friends then had won the trivia title, there would be no way for the Old Philsopher Pub team to fit. So, Clown Posse won with 75 points and Friends tallied 66. By clue 4, the Dirty Dozen plays weekly at the King's Arms; and the 3 Stooges PLus 1 play at the Old Philosopher. By elimination, the Clown Posse's home league is at the Maid Marian Pub. In sum, the results of the Pub Trivia League summer session were

  • Clown Posse, Maid Marian Pub, 75
  • Dirty Dozen, King's Arms Pub, 72
  • Friends, the Plough, 66
  • Barflyers, Queen Victoria Pub, 63
  • 3 Stooges Plus 1, the Old Philosopher Pub, 60
