Wrestling Championships
Who is this season's county heavyweight wrestling champion?
February 4, 2008
From the introduction, eight heavyweight wrestlers competed in the county tournament. The four winners of the first round matches advanced to the championship bracket in the second or semifinal round, with the four losing wrestlers going into the consolation bracket in the second round. The winners of the championship bracket second round matches wrestled for the championship, the losers of the championship bracket second round matches met for 3rd place, the winners of the consolation bracket second round matches grappled for 5th place, and the losers of the consolation bracket second round matches competed for 7th place. From this, then, the wrestler who won the county heavyweight championship finished the tournament with a 3-0 record; the wrestlers who ended up in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th places finished the tournament with 2-1 records; the wrestlers who ended up in 4th, 6th, and 7th places finished the tournament with 1-2 records; and the wrestler who lost the 7th-place match finished with an 0-3 record. By clue 7, the Central City High wrestler won one of the semifinal or second round matches; but by clue 5, the Central City heavyweight wasn't in the championship match. The Central City wrestler therefore won in the consolation bracket in round two and wrestled for 5th place. Since Brad lost to the Central City entrant in round two (7), he wrestled in the 7th place match--winning it, since he ended up 1-2 overall (10). The Summerset High wrestler won in the second round (clue 7) but did not meet the Central City High wrestler in the tournament (9). Therefore, the Summerset High wrestler didn't wrestle for 5th place and wrestled for 1st in the final round. If the Summerset entrant had lost the title match, he would have finished 2-1 and in clue 4 be either Frankie or Hart. Since the Summerset wrestler won his semifinal match by a pin (7) and Frankie didn't score a pin in his three matches (2), the Summerset wrestler isn't Frankie. Since the Summerset heavyweight won his semifinal match by a pin (7) and all of Hart's matches were decisions (13), the Summerset wrestler isn't Hart. The Summerset High heavyweight didn't finish 2-1 in clue 4 and thus won the county championship. In clue 7, if Danny's win had put him into the championship match against the Summerset entrant, Danny would have finished 2-1 in the tournament and be either Hart or from Mountaintop High in clue 4. Danny isn't from Mountaintop (1) and since he won by a pin in round two (7) isn't Hart (13). Danny's win pitted him against the Central City wrestler for 5th place; and since he did not finish 2-1 in the event, he lost to the Central City wrestler in the 5th place match. By clue 7, then, Jericho ended up wrestling for 7th place and losing to Brad in that match. Again by clue 7, Rock must have wrestled for the championship and lost to the Summerset heavyweight to finish 2nd with a 2-1 record. Since Rock isn't Frankie (2), he is the Mountaintop High entrant(4). From clue 7, Ian and Vandam wrestled for 3rd place. Since the one who finished 3rd ended up 2-1, he would be Hart or would be Frankie in clue 4. Since Ian lost to Rock by a pin (7) and all of Hart's matches were decisions (13), Ian couldn't have ended up 2-1. Ian placed 4th in the tournament, losing the 3rd-place match to Vandam--Frankie in clue 4. By clue 4, Hart had a 2-1 record in the event; he must the Central City High wrestler. Since the Fork Union High wrestler lost a first round match (12), he wrestled in the consolation bracket. The Fork Union competitor isn't Danny and isn't Jericho (11). The Fork Union wrestler is Brad. By clue 12, Eric also lost in the first round and wrestled in the consolation bracket. By clue 5, he is Jericho. By clue 12, Chad was in the championship bracket; he isn't from Summerset (3) and is thus the Mountaintop High heavyweight. By clue 6, Adam Kane is the Summerset High wrestler. By elimination, Greg is Hart from Central City High. Since Jericho went 0-3 in the event, he isn't the Wildlake High (10) or Angel Island High (12) wrestler; nor is Jericho the New Caledonia grappler(11). Jericho is on the East York squad. By clue 8, McMahon is Ian. Savage is Danny, and Ian is from Wildlake High (10). By elimination, Brad is Orton. Frankie is on the Angel Island team and Danny from New Caledonia High (12). In the first round, by clue 12, Mountaintop's Chad Rock defeated Fork Union entrant Brad Orton; and Angel Island's Frankie Vandam beat East York's Eric Jericho. Since the Summerset and Central City wrestlers didn't wrestle each other in the tournament (9), the Summerset wrestler Adam Kane's first-round victim was New Caledonia's Danny Savage, with Central City heavyweight Greg Hart losing to Wildlake High's Ian McMahon. In sum, the county heavyweight wrestling championship was decided as follows:

    First Round:
Adam Kane, Summerset def. Danny Savage, New Caledonia
