| From the introduction, the five elephants were to be in Bungling Bros.,
Blarney & Bailout, Blackstone, Big Top, and Bundlestuff order but ended
up all mixed up. By clue 2, three elephants in consecutive order were
Majarish, followed by the elephant carrying Kuku the Klown, followed by
the elephant with the Blackstone sign. Majarish therefore was 1st, 2nd,
or 3rd in elephant order. If Majarish were 3rd, with the elephant carrying
Kuku the Klown then 4th and the elephant with the Blackstone sign 5th in
line, since the elephant carrying Kuku the Klown wasn't the one with the
Blarney & Bailout sign (clue 8), by clue 5, the elephant with the
Blarney & Bailout sign would have been 2nd in order. Then Sarita would
have been 1st and the elephant ridden by strongman Ajax Jones 3rd in line
(5). By clue 4, then, the elephant with the Blarney & Bailout sign would
have been Taj--no (8). So, Majarish wasn't 3rd in order. If Majarish
had been 2nd in order, with the elephant carrying Kuku the Klown then 3rd
and the elephant with the Blackstone sign 4th in line (2), since the
elephant carrying Kuku the Klown wasn't the one with the Blarney & Bailout
sign (8), there would be no way for clue 5 to work. So, Majarish wasn't
2nd in order; Majarish led the parade, with the elephant carrying
Kuku the Klown then 2nd and the elephant with the Blackstone sign 3rd in
line (2). By clues 5 and 8, the elephant with the Blarney & Bailout sign was
4th in order and the elephant ridden by strongman Ajax Jones 5th in line.
If Sarita in clue 5 were 2nd in order, since the elephant carrying the
Blarney & Bailout sign wasn't Taj (8), Taj would have been 5th in line
with Thelma Thumb on the 4th elephant (4). However, there is no way for
clue 6 to then fit. So, Sarita wasn't the 2nd elephant in the parade and
was 3rd (5). By clue 6, trapeze artist Flying Finnerty was on the elephant
with the Blarney & Bailout sign. The latter elephant wasn't Taj (8); by
clue 4, Taj was 2nd in order, with Thelma Thumb aboard Majarish. By
elimination, lion tamer Gunnar Gabble rode Sarita. Rani was 4th and Bill
5th in line (1). The sign on Bill's banner said Bungling Bros. (3).
Finally, by clue 7, Majarish, carrying Thelma Thumb, had the Big Top sign;
and Taj had the Bundlestuff banner. In sum, the five elephants were
mistakenly in order as follows:
- 1st -- Majarish, Thelma Thumb, Big Top
- 2nd -- Taj, Kuku the Klown, Bundlestuff
- 3rd -- Sarita, Gunnar Gabble, Blackstone
- 4th -- Rani, Flying Finnerty, Blarney & Bailout
- 5th -- Bill, Ajax Jones, Bungling Bros.
