The Treasure of the Gold Galleon
X marks the spot where the fabled treasure of the Spanish Main is buried.
December 5, 2005
By clue 7, Captain Dredd was either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd pirate to possess the Treasure of the Golden Galleon. If Capt. Dredd were the 1st to hold it, Goat's Beard Island would have been the 2nd place it was buried and the captain of the Pursuer would have been the 3rd to hold it (clue 7). Since the captain of the Pursuer wasn't Wm Quid (1), by clue 5, Captain Wm Quid would have been the 4th pirate and the captain of the Devil's Work the 5th to have the treasure in his hands. By clue 10, Captain Flint wasn't the pirate who buried the treasure on Goat's Beard island; by clue 2, then, he would have been the 3rd to hold it, with Captain Wm Quid then burying it on Skull Island. By clue 11, Captain Jack Smack would have been 2nd and Captain Roberts 5th to have the treasure in his possession, with Quid then the captain of the Silence (3). Neither Flint (4) nor Roberts (12) would have buried the Treasure of the Golden Galleon on Ile de Morte, so Dredd would have--but the treasure wasn't buried there 1st (8). So, Captain Dredd wasn't 1st to possess the treasure. If Capt. Dredd were the 2nd to hold it, Goat's Beard Island would have been the 3rd place it was buried and the captain of the Pursuer would have been the 4th to hold it (7). Since the captain of the Pursuer wasn't Wm Quid (1), by clue 5, Captain Wm Quid would have been the 1st pirate and Dredd as captain of the Devil's Work the 2nd to have the treasure in his hands. By clue 10, Captain Flint wasn't the pirate who buried the treasure on Goat's Beard island; by clue 2, then, he would have been the 4th to hold it, with the captain who buried it on Skull Island the 5th. However, there is no way for clue 3 to work given this arrangement. So, Captain Dredd wasn't 2nd to possess the treasure and was 3rd. Goat's Beard Island was the 4th place it was buried and the captain of the Pursuer was the 5th to hold it (7). By clue 5, Captain Wm Quid was 1st or 2nd to possess the hoard; while by clues 2 and 10, Captain Flint was also 1st or 2nd. Trying Flint 1st and Quid 2nd to hold the treasure, Quid would have buried the treasure on Skull island (2) and the Devil's Work would have been Captain Dredd's ship (5). By clue 3, the captain of Silence would have been the 4th and Captain Roberts the 5th to have the hoard. However, there is no way for clue 6 to work given this arrangement. Therefore, Captain Quid was 1st and Captain Flint 2nd to hold the Treasure of the Golden Galleon. Then the Devil's Work was Flint's vessel (5), and Dredd buried the treasure on Skull Island (2). Since the captain of the Pursuer didn't bury the hoard on Ile de Morte (4), by clue 8, Captain Flint did; and the Bonny Maid was Wm Quid's ship. By clue 6, the captain who buried the treasure on Goat's Beard Island sailed on the Grey Ghost. By elimination, Captain Dredd was master of the Silence; and Captain Roberts commanded the Grey Ghost (3). By elimination, Captain Jack Smack was last to bury the treasure--on Hook Island (9), with Isla San Pedro the 1st place the Treasure of the Golden Galleon was hidden. In sum, the treasure was hidden by the pirate captains as follows:

  • 1st -- Captain Wm Quid, the Bonny Maid, Isla San Pedro
  • 2nd -- Captain Flint, the Devil's Work, Ile de Morte
  • 3rd -- Captain Dredd, the Silence, Skull Island
  • 4th -- Captain Roberts, the Grey Ghost, Goat's Beard Island
  • 5th -- Captain Jack Smack, the Pursuer, Hook Island
