Boeing, Boeing!
Wendy Winger sees the U.S.A. in her career as a flight attendant.
November 14, 2005
Wendy worked for Southeast (clue 1), Union (5), and Omega (7) Airlines from 2000-2002 in some order, being with JetBlack and America North in 2003 and 2004 or vice versa. By clue 2, then, Wendy was based in Boston in 2000, 2001, or 2002. If Wendy were in Boston in 2002, since she didn't fly to San Diego or Seattle while in Boston (9), she couldn't have worked for Union (5) or Omega (7) in 2001; she would have been with Southeast that year. Then her 2002 bases would have been Boston and New York (1). However, there then would be no way for her to have worked for Union (5) or Omega (7) in 2000 since she couldn't have been based in Phoenix or Miami. If Wendy were in Boston in 2001, since she didn't fly to San Diego or Seattle while in Boston (9), she couldn't have worked for Union (5) or Omega (7) in 2000; she would have been with Southeast in 2000--and would have been based in New York in 2001 and Chicago in 2002 (1). If she were then with Union Airlines in 2001 and Omega in 2002, she would have flown out of San Diego in 2002 and Phoenix in 2003 (5) and out of Seattle in 2003 and Miami in 2004. However, she wasn't based in Las Vegas in 2004 (6) and didn't fly out of Las Vegas for Southeast Airlines (10), so this arrangement fails. If Wendy were with Omega in 2001 and Union in 2002, she would have flown out of Seattle in 2002 and Miami in 2003 (7) and out of San Diego in 2003 and Phoenix in 2004 (5). Again, however, she wasn't based in Las Vegas in 2004 (6) and didn't fly out of Las Vegas for Southeast Airlines (10), so this arrangement also fails. Wendy was based in Boston in 2000. The other end of her 2000 flight wasn't New York, Chicago (1), San Diego, Phoenix (5), Las Vegas (6), Seattle, Miami (7), or Los Angeles (8) and was Orlando. By clue 3, then, Wendy didn't fly for Omega in 2000 and flew for Southeast or Union. If she had worked for Union Airlines in 2000, she would have worked for Southeast in 2001 and Omega in 2002 or vice versa. Trying Wendy at Southeast in 2001 and Omega in 2002, she would have been based in San Diego in 2001 and Phoenix in 2002 (5), New York in 2002 and Chicago in 2003 (1), and in Seattle in 2003 and Miami in 2004 (7). By clue 6, Wendy would have been flying out of Las Vegas in 2001, for Southeast--no (10). Trying Wendy at Omega in 2001 and Southeast in 2002, she would have been based in San Diego in 2001 and Phoenix in 2002 (5), in Seattle in 2002 and Miami in 2003 (7), and in New York in 2003 and Chicago in 2004 (1). By clue 6, Wendy would have been flying out of Las Vegas in 2001--but there is no way for clue 8 to work. Therefore, Wendy didn't fly for Union in 2000; she worked for Southeast then, flying out of New York in 2001 and Chicago in 2002 (1). If Wendy had worked for Omega in 2001 and Union in 2002, she would have been based in Seattle in 2002 and Miami in 2003 (7) and in San Diego in 2003 and Phoenix in 2004 (5). By clue 11, Wendy would have flown America North out of Miami and San Diego, a conflict with clue 4. Therefore, Wendy worked for Union Airlines in 2001 and Omega Airlines in 2002. She was based in San Diego in 2002 and Phoenix in 2003 (5) and in Seattle in 2003 and Miami in 2004 (7)--where she worked for America North (11), being with JetBalck in 2003. By clue 6, Wendy was based in Las Vegas in 2001 and Los Angeles then in 2004. In sum, Wendy Winger's Boeing, Boeing! career has been as follows: .

  • 2000 -- Boston & Orlando for Southeast Airlines
  • 2001 -- New York & Las Vegas for Union Airlines
  • 2002 -- San Diego & Chicago for Omega Airlines
  • 2003 -- Phoenix & Seattle for JetBlack Airlines
  • 2004 -- Miami & Los Angeles for America North Airlines
