Pair serve their way to title in Mixed Doubles Championship.
August 1, 2005
From the introduction, four matches were played: after the two semifinal matches, the winners met for the championship and the losers played in the consolation match for third place. By clue 13, in one of the semifinal matches, Annie and her partner defeated the mixed doubles team from Foothills, 6-4 6-2. By clue 2, however, the Foothills pair didn't lose both of their matches; they therefore won the consolation match. If Annie and her partner then won the championship, since Annie isn't from Greenbelt (3), in clue 6, the Greenbelt mixed pairs' win would have been in the semifinal other than Annie's--6-4 3-6 7-6 over Joe and his partner. Joe and his partner then would have lost in the consolation match to the Foothills pair, who would have to be Jim and his partner in clue 1 or Mr. Ives and his partner in clue 9. However, in clue 1, Joe isn't Ms. Love's partner; nor, in clue 9, is he April's (clue 12). So, Annie and her partner lost the championship match. Since Annie isn't on the Greenbelt team (3), the Greenbelt team's win in clue 6 came in the other semifinal to Annie's or in the championship. If it were in the other semifinal, then Greenbelt would have won the title; and if it were in the championship game, Greenbelt would have won the other semifinal match. So, Greenbelt won the second semifinal and the championship. If the win over Joe and his partner had been in the semifinal (6), Joe and his partner then would have lost in the consolation match to the Foothills pair, who would have to be Jim and his partner in clue 1 or Mr. Ives and his partner in clue 9. However, in clue 1, Joe isn't Ms. Love's partner; nor, in clue 9, is he April's (clue 12). Therefore, in clue 6, Joe must be Annie's partner; and they lost 6-4 3-6 7-6 to the Greenbelt pair in the championship match. By clue 10, the Deerlake pair won at least one match; they must be Annie and Joe, and Alice then plays for Foothills (10). By elimination, the Woodlawn pair lost both their matches. Since April and her partner lost a match(9), they are not the Greenbelt pair; Amy and her partner play for Greenbelt, and April and her partner are the Woodlawn team. By clue 5, Ms. Jones and her partner won one match; she isn't Annie (3) and must be Alice. Her partner isn't Jim (14), so Jim and his partner's win in clue 1 wasn't in the consolation match; Jim and his partner play for Greenbelt and defeated Woodlawn's April Love and her partner 6-2 4-6 6-2 in the semifinals. Then Mr. Ives and his partner's 6-1 6-0 victory came in the consolation match over April Love and her Woodlawn partner (9). Annie is Ms. Hill (11) and Amy Ms. Grey (intro). By clue 8, Jeff is April's partner and John Alice's. By clue 7, Joe is Mr. Mix. Jim is Mr. Frost (4) and Jeff Mr. King (intro). In sum, the Summerset Mixed Doubles Championship results are

  • Semifinals:
  • Annie Hill & Joe Mix, Deerlake, def. Alice Jones & John Ives, Foothills, 6-4 6-2
